Stats and Numbers

My observation is, people are influenced by "stats and numbers," even when they're inaccurate.

Their reasoning goes something like this:

"___________.com says ___________.  They are huge.  They are owned by (insert huge billion dollar company).  So _________ must be right."

It's perception.

Another example is "friends, followers and likes" in social media.

In terms of tangible benefit, the stats and numbers don't necessarily equal attention, influence or clients, but the perception can lead to conversations which can lead to attention, influence and clients.

The lesson?

The stats and numbers often have little value.

Having bigger stats and numbers can make a difference in terms of how others perceive you.

And that can impact your bottom line.

So, increase your stats and numbers, but ignore them.
